This eight week hand building class is a great way to finish your week and do something for yourself! Students will explore a range of hand building though if your creativity is taking your projects in another direction create what your heart desires.

With your class registration, you have access to the studio an additional two hours per week during Open Studio so the fun can continue (or so you can make up a missed class). Enjoy your Friday mornings doing something you love-come join the clay community at the Kish Center!

We’ll spend most of our time on the pottery wheel, learning the basics of throwing, trimming, and shaping forms. Along the way, we’ll also explore hand building techniques to add details, experiment with new ideas, and personalize your work. This 8 week guided advanced course is designed for handbuilding students that are looking to dive deeper in their ceramic knowledge while creating projects of their choice. Whether you are looking to perfect a classic project or try something new, there is space to work on your skills and indulge your creativity. Instructor-led demonstrations will include working with slabs, mixing clay colors, expanding kiln knowledge, mixing glazes, and creating artistic pieces.

Students will explore a range of hand building though instructor led projects, though if your creativity is taking your projects in another direction create what your heart desires! Each week we’ll make a different clay sculpture projects using handbuilding techniques. Once our pieces are dried and fired, we’ll add color with glazes. We’re going to get messy, so wear play clothes and tie back long hair if you have it!
