Discover the joy of drawing in this welcoming six-week course designed for beginners and anyone looking to strengthen their artistic foundation. The Wandering Pencil is a fun, relaxed six-week drawing course designed for complete beginners as well as those looking to strengthen their artistic foundations. No prior experience is required. Through guided lessons and engaging projects, students will learn how artists use value, perspective, proportion, form, and color to bring their drawings to life. Watercolor in the Wild

$180

with Allison Frink

Calendar Aug 27, 2026 at 1 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Learn to do plein air painting and urban sketching! Each week we’ll go to a different location around Woodstock to make work on location. (If the weather is bad, we’ll retreat to the Reeves House to work from photos.) We’ll discuss different techniques for working quickly, and create a fresh plein air piece during each class. Students are encouraged to keep their supply kit lightweight and fast to set up. ** Please note that this class will be mostly outside! We won’t be hiking, but there will some walking and sitting in the sticky Georgia heat. ** Zero experience, some experience, and intermediate experience levels are all welcome.

Recommended Art Supplies:

- a small block of watercolor paper (cold-press paper is a good choice if you want to focus on painting; hot-press paper is a good choice if you want to draw with ink and then paint; small sizes like 4”x6” or 8”x10” are best for packing light and painting fast)

- a pigment ink pen (single-width 0.5 (or larger); Sakura Pigma Micron or Faber-Castell Pitt Pens are good choices)

- a small watercolor pan set (tube watercolors are annoying outside, trust me)

- a watercolor brush (or more) (a reservoir brush with water in the handle is really convenient - but regular short-handle watercolor brushes are also great!)

- a mechanical pencil

- a paper towel (or an old washcloth)

**water for painting with**

Optional Art Supplies:

- artist or painters’ tape

- a binder clip (or bulldog clip)

- a compact travel easel

Recommended Human-Comfort Supplies:

- a travel chair (or stool)

- a hat and sunscreen

- bug repellant

- a bag that fits all your supplies

** drinking water**

Payment plan available: $50 deposit plus 2 payments of $65.00, paid every two weeks.
